Per-Stylist Pricing: Why One Price Doesn't Fit All

Your senior colorist with 15 years of experience charges $200 for a balayage. Your junior stylist, two years in, charges $120 for the same service. Both are correct prices — but most salon software makes you choose one.

The Spreadsheet Problem

Most salon owners handle per-stylist pricing in one of three terrible ways:

  1. Everyone charges the same — which means your senior stylist is underpriced or your junior is overpriced
  2. Different "services" per person — "Balayage (Alex)" and "Balayage (Maria)" cluttering your booking menu
  3. A spreadsheet — that nobody updates and clients never see

None of these scale. And they all create confusion when clients book online.

How It Should Work

In Relay, every service has a default price. Then each staff member can have a custom override — their own price and duration for that service.

When a client books:

  • If they pick a specific stylist, they see that stylist's price
  • If they don't pick a stylist, they see a price range ("$120-$200")
  • Addons have per-staff pricing too

Setting It Up Takes 2 Minutes

  1. Go to Services → tap a service
  2. Scroll to Staff Pricing
  3. Set each person's rate

That's it. The booking flow automatically shows the right price for the right stylist. Your website, your booking link, your in-app booking — all consistent.

What About Addons?

Same deal. If a deep conditioning treatment is $20 for most stylists but $35 with your color specialist (because she uses a premium product), set the override. Clients see the correct addon price based on who they're booking with.

The Revenue Impact

Salon owners who implement per-stylist pricing typically see:
